Bio |
I found myself wanting more out of life than the state of Nebraska could offer me so I moved to Denver, CO in the end of May '05. Along with my husband, Ahren, who I married in June of '04. I graduated from McCook Community College in May of '04 with an Associates Degree in Art. I then went to a year at UNK and hated it so I found an alternative route for my work in CO. I'm going to the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design as an Illustration Major. I finally achieved Senior status this semester and I'm looking forward to FINALLY graduating and starting my career as a freelance illustrator in about 18 credit hours. I love drawing and portrait work is my specialty but I do just about every form of art imaginable now. I have really learned to reach and stretch myself to the ends of creativity and my own personal limits only to continue on towards the unimaginable things I have been able to attain lately. I studied at the Burren College of Art in County Clare, Ireland this the summer of '06 for a month. It was an absolute eye opener to me in my work and my abilities to communicate ideas that I had been harboring for a long time. It was hard to be away from my husband for that long but it was also much needed solace and isolation to my work that my soul had been longing for. I concentrated on site specific artwork (see Andy Goldsworthy for examples if you don't know) and solving some symbolism problems I have been playing around with for about a year dealing with Pagan animal symbolism and women's place (or lack thereof) in the church and in aspects of society. In March of '07 my husband and I went to Rome to further our understanding of art and just have some time to relax. It was beautiful to be able to spend a week there studying all the old masters we have learned about in college so far. Since moving to Denver I have finally found other people with like interests that I have had my entire life and finally, for once, I am not so lonely. I love the level of creativity I find in people here and especially the acceptance and open mindedness. This is SO much different from the small town in Nebraska where I spent most of my first 18 years persecuted for being who I am. I must admit that I love my faster paced life style that I have now. And I must admit that I have had a VERY interesting and fulfilling life and lifestyle within the past few years. I have found a great and very fond love for clubbing the Gothic Scenes and culture downtown. My husband and I had our first child on February 15th after a long wait! (She was due on the 7th.) We named our beautiful baby girl Roslynn Lilith Provance! :) I'm currently working for Hot Topic as a Full Time Assistant Store Manager to get through school. The company is currently number 4 on the Fortune 500 Company list and is one of the best organizations I have ever had the pleasure of working for. They truly care about the people working for them and create an atmosphere of equality that is usually unheard of in the work enviroment. |
