Centenarian, Alden Carl Emmanuel Carlson, 100, of Boise, ID. passed away peacefully at home April 13, 2012. Alden was born on September 21, 1911, in Loomis, NE, the 5th child of Joseph and Emma C. (Johnson) Carlson, both parents were born and educated in Sweden.

Alden was raised on the family farm and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1929. While attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, he was a member of Sigma Xi, Sigma Tau and Pi Mu Epsilon. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he worked as an engineer for the Nebraska State Highway Department, the Soil Conservation Service and Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District. In 1940, he married Ruth Irene Nylander, in Loomis. They moved to Hastings where son, Gary, and daughter, Pat, were born. In 1948, he took the family to Mendoza, Argentina, where he was in charge of field surveys for a power and irrigation project. Daughter, Paula, was born after they returned to Nebraska in 1949, and Alden went to work for JA Terteling & Sons, moving to their headquarters in Boise in late 1950. He continued with Terteling's until his retirement in 1980. Alden was a member of Masonic Lodge #2, the Scottish Rite, and EI Korah Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Boise Chamber of Commerce for several years. He also was a long time member of Whitney United Methodist Church, serving on the Portland District Council of Finance and Administration for the church for several years. He enjoyed bowling and golfing for more than 70 years and was especially proud to hit a hole-in-one at age 87! He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and, after his retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed several cruises in various parts of the world and visiting relatives in Sweden. He was also a loyal Bronco fan.

Alden is survived by: wife, Ruth I. Carlson of Boise; son, Gary and his wife Charlotte of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Pat Miller and her husband Larry of Boise; and daughter, Paula Weir of Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Alden was preceded in death by: parents, infant sister, Charlotte, sister Ethel Rilea of Portland, OR and brothers Earl and Milton of Holdrege, NE.

Burial was in the Cloverdale Memorial Park.
