U.S. Veteran Funeral Services for David R. Linder will be
conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on
Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Gary
Winget, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery
in Phelps County, Nebraska.
David Ray Linder, 60 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at his home in Holdrege. Dave was born January 5, 1947 at Holdrege, the eldest child of Richard and Helen (Wilson) Linder. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege. Dave received his education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1965. During his high school years, Dave enjoyed playing American Legion Baseball. He then pursued higher education at Milford, Nebraska Vocational Technical School, where he studied Auto Mechanics. Following his education, he served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps from December 27, 1966 until his honorable discharge on September 4, 1970. On April 22, 1967 he was united in marriage to Shirley Renken and to this union three children were born: Dawn Daniele, Karen Kristine and Richard John. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Dave began his career in auto parts working at S & W Auto Parts, Sidles, Midland CO-OP and most recently as parts manager at Janssen Ford. On March 23, 1991 he was united in marriage to Joleen Power. Dave was a member of the First Baptist Church, active with the American Legion Post #66, serving as the Sgt. Of Arms in 1970, Adjutant in 1971 and Post Commander in 1972, also a member of the Elks Lodge, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1977 - 1978 and was an active member of the Holdrege Fire and Rescue for over twenty years and a past Assistant Fire Chief. He enjoyed hunting, loved working on cars, especially the time he spent rebuilding and restoring a Corvette. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Joleen of Holdrege; father and step-mother, Richard and Pat Linder of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters: Dawn Keith and her husband, David of Theodore, AL and Kris Shaver and her husband, Trent of Atlanta, Nebraska; one son, R.J. Linder and his wife, Kelli of Grand Island, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Erica and Geoffrey Keith of Theodore, AL; three step-daughters: Abby Christensen and her husband, Adam of Lincoln, Nebraska, Trisha Erickson and her husband, Chris of Loveland, Colorado and Stephanie Keeler of Boston, MA; five sisters: Martha Melton and her husband, Ray of Theodore, Jan Nitchie and her husband, Bob of Sargent, Nebraska, Jeanie Aleck and her husband, Jimmy of Studio City, California, Kris Seidel of Colorado Springs, and Mary Hartman of Stevensville, MI; one brother, Scott Linder and his wife, Ginger of Holdrege; sisters-in-law: Jenice Wolfe and her husband, Brad of Fremont, NE and Janice Quitmeyer and her husband, Kevin of Englewood, Colorado; brothers-in-law: Wayne Power Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Spring, Texas and Keith Power and his wife, Bobbi of Houston, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Doris Power of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Linder; maternal grandparents: Ray and Nora Wilson; paternal grandparents: Mervin and Blanche Linder; nephew, Alan Nitchie and brother-in-law, Steve Seidel. Mr. Linder will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory and suggested to the Phelps County Community Foundation. |
