Celebration of Life Services for Delmer R. Berry were conducted from the Westmark Evangelical Free Church in rural Loomis, Nebraska on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Darrel Wissmann officiating. Following the traditional funeral, cremation took place and a private family inurnment was held at a later date.

Delmer Ray Berry, 69 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Bryan Health Care – West in Lincoln, Nebraska following complications from heart surgery. Delmer was born August 4, 1947 in Holdrege, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children born to Elmer E. and Faye M. (Schroder) Berry. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1965.

Following his education, Delmer was united in marriage to Janet Johnson on September 30, 1967 and to this union two children were born: Lisa and Patrick. They made their home in York, Nebraska and Holdrege, until settling in Bertrand in 1972. The couple enjoyed over 49 years together. Delmer and Janet were owners of Berry's Jack and Jill in Bertrand. Delmer then served as District Sales Manager for over 25 years for McKesson Corporation and later worked for Affiliated Foods until his retirement.

Delmer enjoyed many activities including: golfing, fishing, hunting, and camping was a favorite past-time. He was an avid sports fan, especially Husker football. He also enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. Following retirement, Delmer and Janet enjoyed many days at Methodist Cove at Harlan County Lake.

He was a member of the Bertrand Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, the Bertrand Chamber of Commerce, and was a member and served on the board of the Hi-Line Golf Course.

Besides his parents; Delmer was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Paul and Fern Johnson; three brothers: Don Berry, Dennis Berry, and Dean Berry and his wife, Kay; and sister, Detta Duval.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Janet Berry of Bertrand; his two children: Lisa Ford and her husband, Steve of Lincoln, Nebraska and Patrick Berry and his wife, Keri of Loomis; four grandchildren: Alexa and Laurel Berry and Averi and Mason Ford; two sisters: Doris Ann Schriner and her husband, Ed of Holdrege, Diane Sell and her husband, Jim of Holdrege; one brother-in-law: Larry Duval of Holdrege; sisters-in-law: LuEtta Berry of Holdrege and Judy Berry of Illinois; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Delmer's honor and will be designated at a later date.
