Deron Robert Harden, 45 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Deron was born on June 4, 1963 at Holdrege, the eldest of two sons of Robert Donald and RoDonna Marjorie (Lindholm) Harden. Deron received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1981. On June 8, 1985 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Dinges and the couple was blessed with two beautiful children from the Nebraska Children's Home in Omaha: Daniel Broderick on September 3, 1996 and Jillian Sue on May 17, 2000. He was a devoted father, and loved the time spent with his children, especially their camping trips.
Deron was born with a proverbial wrench in his mouth and a love for farming. Deron began his training to be a mechanic at the age of eight, when he loved going to work with his dad at Bob's Auto Repair Service in Holdrege. He fulfilled his love for the farm working for Harvey and Sharron Altmaier of Kearney for three summers during high school. A special bond was formed and the Altmaier's were second parents to Deron. He then pursued higher education at Southeast Community College at Milford, Nebraska, where he earned a degree in Auto Mechanic Engineering. Dick Kizzier hired him at the Chevrolet garage in Kearney. Once again, Deron's love for the farm was calling out to him and he soon engaged in farming at Miller, Nebraska.
Self-employment was always a dream of Deron's, he then had the opportunity to open D.J.'s Conoco in Holdrege. Needing to use his mechanical skills, Deron was employed by Gestring Motors, McClymont Implement, Becton-Dickinson and Town and Country Auto. An interest in motorcycles in recent years took him to Kaufman Kawasaki in Holdrege, where he was employed as a mechanic at the time of his passing.
Family and friends learned of Deron's talent of writing with humor, when his mom became ill in March. Deron's writing skills kept everyone informed by subscription to the Caring Bridge website. He not only informed everyone of his mom's condition, but also showed his wit, humor and faith in God.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two children: Daniel and Jillian of Hastings, Nebraska; his parents: Bob and RoDonna Harden of Holdrege; brother, Duane Harden and his wife, Tammie of Hagerstown, Maryland; nephews: Tyler Harden of Abilene, Texas, Nathan and Ryan Harden and niece, Lauren Harden all of Hagerstown; special friend who was a second mother, Sharron Altmaier of Kearney; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harden and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Lindholm and special friend of the family and second father to Deron, Harvey Altmaier.
