FDoris was united in marriage to Harry L Hollinger on February 19, 1941, and to this union five children were born: Dick, Barbara, Douglas, Larry, and Merry. The couple lived in Hastings, Nebraska, where Harry was employed with Dutton-Lainson Company. In the fall of 1941, the couple moved to Detroit, Michigan, where Harry worked as a welder for Vickers, Inc., until he enlisted in the United States Army.

FHarry spent twenty-two months in the European war zone before being honorably discharged. Harry and Doris and their young children lived in Holdrege for two years before moving to a farm west of Loomis. Later, the family lived in Loomis, Holdrege again, Scottsbluff, Papillion, and Omaha.

FWherever Doris lived, she enjoyed her neighbors, friends, and church family. Doris taught Sunday school and Bible school through the years, as well as, volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. She was an active volunteer for the Silver Haired Legislature, serving on the board that sponsored Silver Haired Senators. She served as a Silver Haired Senator in Scottsbluff, and Papillion, as well as, a charter member of the Silver Haired Legislature Alumni Society. Doris was a long-time member of the Wa-Han-Ka Extension Club, the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary Society, and a weekly volunteer at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.

FDoris was a hard worker. She was employed by hospitals in Holdrege and Scottsbluff; worked several years as an Avon Lady; and retired after thirteen years as a telephone operator for The United Telephone Company. Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Papillion, and enjoyed her Circle One friends. Doris’ hobbies were family and writing letters. She was an avid reader and helped her husband Harry with their huge gardens. Doris enjoyed many years of attending the sporting events of her family, as well as, concerts, plays, and their award ceremonies. In her later years, Doris enjoyed feeding the birds, growing indoor plants, and playing Bingo. She grew grapefruit trees from seeds, for her grandchildren’s enjoyment, later having to donate them to Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, when they got too big for her apartment.

FDoris was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Harry Hollinger on December 25, 2000; son, Larry Jo on June 5, 1950; four brothers: Lawrence Hanson and his wife, Elva; Wilmer Hanson and his wife, Ruth; Roger Hanson and his wife, Isla; and Earl “Junior” Hanson and his wife, Mary; two sisters: Evelyn Almquist and her husband Dean; and Dorothy Novak and her husband Robert; one brother-in-law, Gerald Cole; one sister-in-law, Doris Hanson; and one son-in-law, Ronald Hokom.

FDoris is survived by two sons: Dick (Barb) Hollinger of Johnson Lake, Nebraska and Doug Hollinger of Omaha; two daughters: Barbara Hokom of Galveston, Texas, and Merry (Rodger) Jensen of Omaha; one sister, Gladys Cole of North Platte, Nebraska; one brother, Sherrod Hanson of Loomis; 10 grandchildren: Greg (Stephanie) Hollinger, Michael Hokom, Mark Hollinger, Matthew (Lina) Miller, Michelle (Eric) Peck, Jason Miller, Meghan (Mark) Stapleton, Alex Jensen, Madison Jensen, and Jamie Jensen; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

FA Memorial Book Signing was held on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

FA memorial has been established in Doris’ honor and will be designated by the family, at a later date.
