Evelyn Ann Dahlstrom, 90, of Holdrege, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born Nov. 14, 1915 on the family farm, two miles west of Holdrege in Phelps County, Neb., the only child of 3. Fred and Hannah (Anderson) Youngquist.

She attended school at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the Class of 1933. She then pursued higher education at the Luther College in Wahoo, before completing her education at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, graduating in 1937 with a degree in education. On Jan. 24, 1942, she married Harry D. Dahlstrom at the Army Chapel at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., and to this union one daughter, Jane, was born. The family made their home in Holdrege, where she was employed at various businesses through the years including: The Gift Shop, for Dr. Donald Brewster, the Brewster Clinic and finally Becton-Dickinson for several years prior to her retirement. The couple had as part of their family an American Field Service Foreign Exchange Student, Jessica Grob, who presently resides with her family in Santiago, Chile.

Mrs. Dahlstrom was a member of he First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she taught Sunday school and was a sponsor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She enjoyed working in the yard, especially tending to her flowers, loved the beauty of the outdoors, looking at the clouds and bird watching. She loved the springtime migration of the Sandhill Cranes. She was active in the community, volunteering her time to the Community Concert Association, the Red Cross Blood Mobile, Meals-On-Wheels and the Phelps County Historical Society.

Survivors include: her husband, Harry of Holdrege; one daughter, Jane Dahlstrom-Quinn, and her husband, Donald Quinn of Evergreen, Colo.; two grandsons, Michael and Patrick Quinn, both of Evergreen; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Dahlstrom will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, March 3, from 1 to 9 p.m. with the family greeting 7-8:30 p.m.
