Larry Lenus Jacobson, 77 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Friday, December 18, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born on July 7, 1943, at Brewster Hospital in Holdrege, and was the only child of Vincent Lenus and Cora Nellie (Carlson) Jacobson. He attended numerous elementary schools in Holdrege until R-7 was built. Larry was in the first class to graduate from eighth grade at the new R-7 rural school. He graduated with the Holdrege High School Class of 1962, which was the first class to graduate from the current Holdrege High School building. In high school, Larry was active with the FFA and was the president his senior year. He also was actively involved in illegal drag racing to the “Sealy.” Following Larry’s education, he started farming with his father.

He married Connie Ann Peterson on Sept. 1, 1963, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. This marriage was blessed with four children: Vicky, Steve, Bart and Chadd.

Larry and Connie made their home south of Holdrege. After Larry’s dad died unexpectedly six weeks after they married, Larry and Connie partnered to continue the family farm together and later formed LC Jacobson Farms. In 1968, Holdrege Rotary Club named Larry as the Outstanding Young Farmer. Then in 1971 Larry and Connie attended the Farmland Coop Winter Retreat for Farmers in Colorado.

Over the years, Larry and Connie hosted many seminary students and foreign exchange students. They enjoyed cruising in their 1960 Dodge and attending many car shows with the Dodge and 1950 Ford police car that Larry had restored. He later donated that car to the Nebraska State Patrol. He also restored a 1961 Dodge police car and drove that car for many years in Swedish Days parades while tossing out “sheriff’s badges” to the kids along the route. Larry and Connie also enjoyed dancing in the Prairie Shuffler Square Dance Club.

Larry was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he served as a Junior League leader, usher and church council member. Larry and Connie helped form the Beth and Al group at the church and participated in the group for many years. Larry and Connie were later founding members of the Spirit of Grace Church in Holdrege.

Larry served his community in many ways throughout the years, including as an honorary chapter farmer for the Holdrege FFA in 1983 (Steve’s senior year), as a board member of the Crime Stoppers, as a member of the Phelps County Ag Society board for 18 years, as president of the Holdrege Coop Equity Board, and as president of the Rural Telephone Board.

Larry enjoyed telling stories and visiting and joking with friends and neighbors at morning coffee time at his farm, at the Coffee Cup Café in Funk, and at the Cozy Inn Café, where he usually arrived at the crack of dawn. He also enjoyed tinkering with his vehicles, adding lights and straight pipes to make them flashier and louder. He enjoyed attending his children’s activities and later his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.

In addition to farming, Larry and his son, Steve, also partnered to operate Jacobson Grain Vac services for 30 years, until Steve’s death in 2005. Larry continued farming actively until 2012, but he still enjoyed mowing at the farm, moving pivots and helping his sons, Bart and Chadd, with their farming operations. He looked forward to spending his days at the farm and his time with his special farm dog companion, Spirit.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve M. Jacobson; and one brother-in-law, Kurt W. Peterson.

Survivors include, his wife of 57 years, Connie Jacobson of Holdrege; three children: Vicky McNiel and her husband, Ron of Firth, Nebraska; Bart Jacobson and his wife, Debra of Mitchell, Nebraska; and Chadd Jacobson and his wife, Kristine of Holdrege; 15 grandchildren: Jody Husk and her husband, Lee of Murdock, Nebraksa; Shane McNiel and his wife, Miranda of Beatrice, Nebraska; Rachel Wilkinson and her husband, Brett of Lincoln, Nebraska; Erin Evans and her husband, Joe of Lincoln; Alyssa Jones and her husband, Jarrett of Savannah, Missouri; Danielle Jacobson of Bellevue, Nebraska; Sam Jacobson of Holdrege; Andrew Jacobson of Holdrege; Ella Jacobson of Holdrege; Ty Jacobson of Mitchell; Elizabeth Jacobson of Mitchell; Caleb Jacobson of Mitchell; Jessica Jacobson of Mitchell; Josh Jacobson of Mitchell; and Seth Jacobson of Mitchell; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Trudi Frisell and her husband, Steve of Holdrege; and Liane Connelly and her husband, Jay of Norfolk, Nebraska; brother-in law, Dennis Peterson of Broomfield, Colorado; along with nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Visitation was held on Monday, December 21, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting friends outside.

A memorial has been established in Larry’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church; or the Nebraska Prairie Museum of Holdrege.
