Ludene Joy (Hendricks) Krem, 76 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at her home in Holdrege due to complications from cancer. Ludene was born February 19, 1944, at Holdrege, the eldest of three children to Dean L. and Louise A. (Anderson) Hendricks. She was baptized and confirmed at the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church north of Holdrege. Ludene received her primary education from District #30 in Phelps County, and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1962. She then pursued a career that involved her lifelong passion for music. She attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, graduating in 1966. During this period of time, Ludene met her future husband, George D. Krem and the couple were united in marriage in 1966. After their marriage, Lu continued her education, obtaining her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Ludene and George had an adventuresome life together as George pursued his career in trombone performance in several locations including: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Iowa City, Iowa; and other locations throughout their careers. Ludene’s career was in piano teaching and performance both in colleges and private instruction within their home. During their time residing in Provinces in Canada, Ludene taught piano at the University of Victoria and Winnipeg Bible College. One of the greatest joys in Ludene’s life was deep, personal friendships. She also enjoyed the beauties of nature and was an avid reader of the Scriptures. During retirement they lived in the Estes Park area of Colorado, where they loved to hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park. After settling to Holdrege, they became members of the First Presbyterian Church. Wherever life took them, they were blessed by their church memberships. A very rewarding part of their retirement years was performing short concerts and recitals together in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Easter Sunday services, and Christmas celebrations. Ludene and George loved to witness the enjoyment of others as they performed duets together on one piano. A favorite performance was a series they called, “old time popular songs.” Besides her parents; Ludene was preceded in death by one brother, Bryan L. Hendricks. Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, George D. Krem of Holdrege; and one brother, Robert D. Hendricks and his wife, C. Mary Dingus of Seattle, Washington; and other relatives and friends. |
