Memorial Services for Norma Jean Kammann will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska with Pastor Clint K. Poppe, officiating. Inurnment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska at 3:00 P.M.
Norma Jean Kammann, 81 years of age of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Norma was born on February 8, 1929 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Wallace Alfred and Esther Marie (Anderson) Peterson. Norma attended Lincoln Elementary School in Holdrege, as well as Holdrege Public Schools. She was an accomplished pianist and was active in band and orchestra playing the clarinet throughout high school and graduated in May 1947.
Norma was united in marriage to Ernest Henry Kammann of Orleans, Nebraska on March 10, 1954 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: a stillborn baby boy in September 1956 and Karen. The family resided at 1023 Morton Street in Holdrege, Nebraska from 1954 to 1997. Ernest passed away in 1989.
Norma became a communicant member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege in 1954. In 1991 Norma retired from piano and organ teaching. During the October 25, 1997 ice storm, Norma moved to Lincoln. Norma then transferred her membership to Christ Lutheran Church-Lincoln and became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church-Lincoln in 2000.
Norma was employed at S.J. & F, Gamble Robinson Company-Holdrege, and was also a piano and organ teacher for many years in Holdrege. She was a member of VFW Post # 7935 of Axtell, Nebraska; American Legion Auxiliary Martin Horn Post #66 in Holdrege; the Norden Club of Lincoln; a past member of LWML; and was a volunteer at Bryan LGH East Medical Center-Lincoln from 1995 until 2010. She also was an avid Husker volleyball fan!
Her parents, her husband, and her son, as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law preceded her in death. Mourning her passing are: Her daughter, Karen Kammann of Lincoln; her sister-in-law, Lue Bartzat of Phoenix, AZ; her nephew and niece, Marlin and Vickie Kammann of Alma, Nebraska; her great-niece and great-nephew, Lindsay and Jared Mulder of Omaha; two great-nephews, Adam Kammann of LaVista; and Nick Kammann of Lincoln; first cousins: Cynthia Peterson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Robert Peterson and wife, Cheryl of Lincoln, Marilyn Kelley and husband, Harold of Long Beach, California, Holly Hodge and wife, Virginia of Holdrege, JoDell Payne and husband, John of Kearney, Robert Ripley and wife, Judy of Tonopah, Nevada; along with a host of several other cousins and friends.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring her wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory and can be directed to the family. Please wear red to honor Norma's favorite color.
