Bio

I attended UNL for 5 years and completed a degree in Journalism with an emphasis on advertising. I marched in the "Pride of All Nebraska" (Cornhusker Marching Band) for 4 of those 5 years, and had a great time! As a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, I made some great lifelong friends. After working my senior year at a hotel in Lincoln, I decided to pursue a career in hospitality. I began at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Chicago and was quickly promoted to a supervisor, then Assistant Front Office Manager. After about 18 months, I departed to the Hampton Inn in Schaumburg (suburbs of Chicago) as Assistant General Manager. This was a great learning experience and career move, since after only 6 months, I was promoted to General Manager of the Hotel and was personally responsible for multi-million dollar budget for the property. In January of '06 I left Hampton and returned to the Downtown Chicago Market at The Hard Rock Hotel, as Front Office Manager. In a major 4 star, Luxury hotel in Chicago, I got to see countless celebrities come in and out of the hotel and had an amazing staff. I left the Hotel Business in October of '08 and began in November at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as the Facilities Manager/Event Planner. SOM is a large architecture firm with an amazing resume of buildings around the world, including: the Sears Tower, Hancock Building, Trump Tower (all of Chicago), the Burj Dubai (now the tallest man made structure in the world) amongst others. At the firm I manage a team of approximately 25 Administrative assistants, and also handle all the event planning for the office. I've spent the last 7 years happily partnered to John Cunningham, who I met in Lincoln prior to our move to Chicago. We have a 4.5 year old Chinese Shar-pei dog named Chi together and are loving the life of Chicago. In April of '07, we purchased a condo in the East Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Life in the big city has been a blast, we have a great circle of friends and enjoy everything the "big city" has offered us. Unfortunately I was seriously injured in a jet ski accident on lake Michigan this year over 4th of July weekend. On Sunday the 6th, I was rushed to the ER at a hospital here in Chicago and taken immediately into trauma/neuro surgery. They did a crainiotomy (cut open my skull) to stop the bleeding and drain all the blood off my brain from the head trauma. I spent several days in a drug-induced coma followed by about another 2 weeks in the hospital. It was extremely scary time for both family and friends and I know many of you inquired through my parents and other sources to get updates. I want to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and good wishes during that extremely difficult time for us. I have made an amazing recovery, and have no lasting deficiencies from the accident.
