Susan was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, to Helen O. (Bradshaw) and Eugene "Gene" Polhemus. She lived on a farm south west of Atlanta, Nebraska until 1955 when the family moved to Holdrege. Her siblings were Sandra Gene, Edward Arthur, and Lee Alan. Susan attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln part-time through 1975, when she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Dramatic Art. Following graduation she moved to Melbourne, Australia, where she met John McAdam, the man she eventually married. After returning to the United States, she lived with her spouse in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska, and Springfield, Illinois. She earned a Master of Arts Management and a Graduate Certificate in Non-profit Management in 1989. Susan's career included employment at Kearney Area Arts Council as Administrator, Rudyard Norton Theatre as Executive Director, Nebraska Arts Council (a state agency) as Performing Arts Director, and Millard Public Schools as Grants Writer. She retired from Millard Public Schools in 2015. Her avocation is family history/genealogy. She has traced several branches of her maternal and paternal family lines, many of her spouse's maternal and paternal lines and family histories for other's, all free of charge. After retirement, she volunteered to assist patrons of Omaha (Nebraska) Public Library's Genealogy Department. Susan's other interests include film, theatre, visual arts, reading and travel. She has visited or lived in various locations in the U.S., other North and South American nations, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
