Terry Murphy

U.S. Veteran Memorial Services for Terry L. Murphy Sr. will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Robert E. Berlie, Sr., officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Immanuel Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.

Terry Lee Murphy Sr., 61 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008 at his home in Holdrege. He was born May 23, 1946 at Gothenburg, Nebraska, the eldest of four children of James Bernard and Evelyn Lucille (Miller) Murph(e)y. Terry began his education at Gothenburg, until the family moved to Holdrege in 1952, where he graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1965. Following his education, Terry was inducted into the United States Navy serving his country in Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1969. While in the Philippines, Terry met Margarita G. Galang and the couple were united in marriage on June 22, 1967. To this union two children were born: Terry L. Murphy Jr. and Josie Lyn. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Terry was employed by the City of Holdrege - Water Department until his retirement.

Terry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3132 in Holdrege where he was involved in many capacities including, serving in all chairs of the local and state levels throughout his years and was proud to have served as State President in 1999-2000. Terry loved to hunt, fish, was an avid Husker Football fan and enjoyed attending the State and National Conventions for the F.O.E. Above all, Terry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and also enjoyed visiting with friends. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Margie of Holdrege; one son, Terry L. Murphy Jr. of Axtell, Nebraska; one daughter, Josie Murphy of Casper, Wyoming; four grandchildren: Kenzie, Brandon, Chance and Montanna; two brothers: Jerry Dean Murphy of Bertrand and Johnny Murphy of Bertrand; one sister, Susan Kay Stewart of Loup City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Terry's wish for cremation.
